Some Effective Solutions for Managing Stress
It is important to realize the not all stress is bad for you. Some stress can make life interesting, and it can push you to achieve your goals. Because we cannot escape every commitment, instead of trying to eliminate stress from our lives completely, it is important to learn to control stress.
Every person has a different type of level of stress in his or her life. Therefore, there is no one solution for dealing with stress. For example, a person who flourishes on constant change would suffer from tremendous boredom and stress in a job that is dull, while an individual that avoids change would be filled with anxiety and stress in a really dynamic position.
It is believed that a lot of illnesses are immediately tied to stress. If you find that you are always sick or fatigued, or that you are always nervous, it is time to learn to cope with your stress. Stress management takes patience and practice. If you persist at it, you will master the art of effectively dealing with stress.
First figure out what main things cause your stress. Is it your morning commute? Preparing for a public speaking engagement at work? Dealing with your kids after school? Most of these things are unavoidable, but still manageable. If your morning commute stresses you out, try leaving for work a few minutes earlier. If public speaking horrifies you, try consulting a psychologist to help you deal with your fears. If your kids drive you crazy, arrange organized activities that you can all enjoy together. It is important to understand what causes you stress, and think of ways that you can deal with them.
It is then important to try to reduce your emotional reactions to your stressful situations. Stress can cause negative thoughts, and you will act accordingly. It might be better to try to think of stress as an opportunity for self-improvement. If you overreact to every situation, step back and assess each time you lash out, and think of ways to calmly cope. You might not be able to do anything about your stressors, but you can control how you react to them
Also note your physical reactions to stress. Try to start deep breathing techniques in order to lower your heart rate. If your physical reactions to stress are severe, seek medical attention to avoid hypertension or heart problems. Sometimes the best way to avoid stress is by taking a time out in order to regroup and refresh.
Another positive way to combat stress is to exercise. Try aerobic exercise and strength training. Those are powerful outlets for stress. Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet, and avoid a lot of caffeine. Try to get a full nights sleep every night as well. Following these simple strategies will help you to cope with stress more than you know.
Stress is part of life. You cannot avoid it. But, by engaging in effective management techniques, you can effectively deal with stress and become a stronger person for it.

A Journey of Personal Growth
In the cold silent darkness of a winter night, snowflakes slowly
fell glistening as I turned on the outside lights. The purity
and newness of the shimmering flakes reminded me of my new
journey of growth and personal development.
The wonder of a single snowflake, one of natures glorious yet
quiet miracles, proves nothing is impossible to create when I am
open to receiving the abundance of life. Sometimes lifes
distractions, fear, pride and personal desires turn me away from
the journey. Keeping my heart and soul in spiritual alignment
with my journey assists me on the path to becoming the full
potential of my destiny.
My own personal growth journey consciously began almost two
years ago, even though I was growing every day of my life
experiencing challenges and opportunities along the way. I
attended my first motivational workshop in New Jersey, and I was
forever changed. I connected with other travelers who are
now dear friends and spiritual partners in the quest of personal
growth and self-improvement. During this time I continued to
attend numerous motivational seminars and inspirational
workshops, learning, growing and gathering insights making
amazing breakthroughs within myself.
I have learned the power of positive thinking and attitude, and
the importance of a state of gratitude for all that I have in my
life. Most importantly, I love and respect the people who have
been placed into my life. There are no coincidences. It is
with gratitude that I acknowledge each human being I have had
the privilege to know. Everything that has happened in my life,
positive or negative, good or bad, joyful or sad has been
orchestrated by the Divine pattern for my life. I am the
person I am today because of all that has gone before me and all
that I have experienced, and I am the empowered woman I am today
because of the people who have entered my life and touched me in
some way on this journey. I am where I am supposed to be in my
travels through life.
There are important steps to take along the path of personal
growth, to live life fully and confidently. These are the tools
that have been beneficial to achieve a positive approach to
opening myself for an abundant life:
– Be grounded and confident. Breathe and be centered as one
with the Universe.
– Open my consciousness and heart to receive messages from my
inner voice, and listen to the words. Diligently work to take
down any walls of resistance that have been a part of my life.
– Pursue education and spiritual enlightenment by attending
personal development seminars presented by successful
motivational entrepreneurs who inspire me.
– Seek the mentor that I connect with, and attend events where
he or she shares their wealth of knowledge and experience.
– Be humble knowing I am connected to every living being in
the Universe, an important and necessary link in the chain of
life.
– Apply all that I have learned to create flow into every
aspect of my life to become the empowered person I was created
to be.
– Be energetic in my approach to life and create a positive
attitude surrounding myself with peace and harmony.
I daily open my heart and mind, strengthening my conscious being
to let God run my life, remembering I am a miracle in progress
and God is not finished with me yet. How exciting to know that I
have so much more to experience and more people will follow
along the path with me, for a distance, touching my life in ways
not even imaginable at this time. I know I am not yet where I am
destined to be, but I thank God I am not where I used to be. I am
okay now, and I am on my way.
Believe in yourself. Trust in God and yourself. Develop a
strong positive attitude and breathe in Life. A joyful mission
statement for Life says:
– Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body..but rather to
skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and
loudly proclaiming.WOW —— What a Ride!
Love and blessings to you on your journey to a better life.

Eight Tips You Should Remember On Your Path To Success!
Everything that happens to us happens for a purpose. And sometimes, one thing leads to another and the result is a disaster. Instead of locking yourself up in your cage of fears and crying over past heartaches, embarrassment and failures treat them as your teachers and they will become your tools in both self-improvement and success.
I remember watching the movie called Patch Adams. It is one of those great films that help you to really look into your own being and what makes you the person you are.
Hunter ‘patch’ Adams is a medical student who failed to make it through the board exams. After months of suffering in melancholy, depression and a number of suicide attempts – he decided to seek medical attention and voluntarily admitted himself into a psychiatric ward.
After months of recuperation in the hospital, his stay led him to meeting a variety of different kinds of people with severe mental disease. During his stay he met a catatonic person, a mentally retarded person, a schizophrenic person and so on. Patch over a period of time always found ways of treating his own ailment and finally realized he was the only one to get himself back on track. Patch woke up one morning realizing that after all the failure and pains he has gone through, he still wanted to become a doctor.
He carries with himself a positive attitude that brought himself self-improvement and success. He did not only improve himself, but also the life of the people around him and their quality of life.
Did he succeed?
Absolutely! Needless to say, he became the best doctor his country has ever known.
So, when does self improvement become synonymous with success? Where do we start? Take these eight tips …
Tip One:
Stop thinking and feeling as if you are a failure. Failure breeds Failure and you are not a Failure! How can others accept your successes if YOU cannot accept them?
Tip Two:
When you see hunks and models on TV, do not feel self pity but simply devise a plan on how you are going to improve and more forward. Self acceptance is not just about having nice slender legs, or great abs. Concentrate on your inner beauty and what you have to offer.
Tip Three:
When people feel down and low about themselves, help them to move up. Do not go down with them. If you do that they will only pull you down further and both of you will end up feeling inferior. If the person will not get up out of the self-pity mode then you need to find a group of people who want to succeed. Success breeds Success.
Tip Four:
The world is a large classroom for lessons, not mistakes. Don’t feel stupid and doomed forever just because you failed on one project. Learn from your mistakes. There is always a next time. If you learn from every lesson, then the law of averages says you must succeed.
Tip Five:
Take things one step at a time. Self improvement takes time and is a learned experience. Remember, Rome was not built in a day and nor will your success be achieved in just one day.
Tip Six:
Self improvement result Leeds to inner stability, personal development and dig this …. SUCCESS. Success is born from self confidence, self appreciation and self esteem.
Tip Seven:
Set meaningful and achievable goals. Self improvement does not turn you into an exact replica of Cameron Diaz or Ralph Fiennes. Your objective should be in developing a better YOU.
Tip Eight:
Little things mean BIG to other people. Sometimes, we don’t realize that the little things that we do like a pat on the back, saying ‘hi’ or ‘hello’, greeting someone ‘good day’ or telling Mr. Smith something like ‘hey, I love your tie!’ are simple things that mean so much to other people. When we are being appreciative about beautiful things around us and other people, we also become beautiful to them.
When you’re willing to accept change and go through the process of self improvement, it does not mean that everyone else is. The world is a place where people of different values and attitude hang out. Sometimes, even if you think you and your best friend always like to do the same thing together at the same time, they would most likely decline an invitation for self improvement.
We should always remember that there’s no such thing as ‘over night success’. It is always a wonderful feeling to hold on to the things that you already have now, realizing that those are just one of the things you once wished for. A very nice quote says that ‘When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.’ We are all here to learn our lessons. When we open our doors to self improvement, we increase our chances to head up the road of success.
If you have tried self improvement material and courses before and you have not got the results you are after, then there is a simple tool we have to unlock which is your brain.
Once you unleash the power of your brain, then there will be no stopping you in your path to success
The Importance of Having Good Friends in Your Life
How many close friends do you have?
One? Two? Five? Do you think you have enough close friends, or do you wish you had more?
A few weeks I read in the newspaper that the average American person has only two close friends or relatives they can confide in. And in most cases, the persons they confided in were usually members of their immediate family.
When I read this I was shocked, because I didnt think that two people to confide in was enough. And it turns out that just two decades ago, the average American person had at least three people they could confide in. So, it seems the number of close friends the average American has is going down.
Although it might be hard to prove, the researchers also thought that most Americans now have far fewer people close to them than people who lived in that country would have had a hundred years ago.
Now, if you dont happen to live in the United States, you might think, What does that have to do with me?
Many of the same factors that are making it harder for Americans to have really close friends that they can confide in are also affecting people in other parts of the world as well.
All over the world, more and more people have to move to big cities to try to find work. Often they have to leave behind the close-knit communities where their families lived for generations.
Once they are in big cities, they find that cities can be very exciting places to live, but cities are also filled with lots of lonely people crammed close together. Too often, the people crammed into these cities are not connecting with each other.
Many people today all over the world are having to work longer hours just to pay the bills and stay alive. Lots of times they spend hours commuting, and when they come home they are too tired to do much more than eat supper and watch television.
The sort of free time our grandparents had to visit with each other on the front porch and relax has often disappeared. In many places, the sense of community has disappeared because too many buildings have been knocked down and replaced by high rises, and too many long time residents have moved away to be replaced by strangers.
Even our technology that is supposed to help us connect with each other can also keep us apart. Television can show us what is happening to people around the globe, but when we keep our eyes glued to the television set we end up not knowing the people who live down the street.
So, loneliness is becoming ever more common as we get more advanced.
Recently in my country, there was a tragic murder/suicide by a woman who had come to a big Canadian city from an eastern country. Her family had achieved a great deal of financial success, and they lived in a huge house in an expensive neighborhood where the people never saw each other.
Apparently, she had been a lot happier in her previous life, where the streets around her home were filled with life, with many family and neighbors to talk to. She could not adjust to the isolation that has become a feature of modern life for so many people.
So, what can we do? I dont believe there is really any such thing as society. There is only us, and a lot of other people. So, instead of moaning about the fact that society has become too busy and too impersonal, we can each take steps to ensure that we slow down and examine whether we are getting the human contact we want.
And if we are not getting enough human contact, we must each make the individual commitment to try to change things for the better in our own life, and for those around us.
Reach out, talk to more people, show that you care about them, and thank them when they care about you.

Universal Law Series – Law Of Correspondence
If your life is not the way you want it, don’t blame the people around you or your circumstances. Look inside and know that you and you alone have created your reality!
This is the last of seven articles in the series covering the core seven Universal Laws. The focus of this article is the seventh Law the Law of Correspondence.
Law of Correspondence
The Law of Correspondence tells us that our outer world is nothing more than a reflection of our inner world as within, so without.
This is an extraordinary principle and really says that our current reality is a mirror of what is going on inside us. If our outer reality is unhappy, chaotic or unfulfilling it is a direct result of what is happening inside us. If we have low self-esteem, feel badly about ourselves or constantly feel anger, hatred or loathing, then our outer world will be a place of turmoil.
The truly sad thing is that it becomes a self-perpetuating situation we feel badly about ourselves and our outer world is unhappy. The worse the outer world becomes, the worse we then feel about ourselves, which has a direct impact on our reality. To escape from this treadmill, it is critical to shift our paradigm.
Nothing in our outer lives can change without first making changes on the inside. In fact, the basis for all self-help is change from the inside out! It does not matter one iota what we change on the outside, if we havent done the work to change on the inside. Our reality will continue to evolve so that it is a reflection of our inner beliefs and world.
In all cases, our outer world reflects our inner world in every way, shape and form. If we desire change in our outer world, we must first change our inner world our thoughts, beliefs and attitudes. Stated another way, our current situation is a direct result of the way we think. If we want to shift our paradigm, then we must change the way we think!
We have total and complete control over only one thing in life our thinking. It is not until we change our thought patterns to focus on what it is we truly desire, that we can effect meaningful and lasting change. This is difficult for most people to accept, as blaming others for the things that are wrong in our lives has become common practice. Lets face it it is much easier on our egos to blame someone else for what is wrong in our lives, than it is to accept the responsibility!
The truly wonderful thing is that by taking control of our minds and thinking, we take control over all other aspects of our life. This is the key to personal happiness, freedom and peace of mind! By focusing exclusively on what it is that we truly desire, and by eliminating all thoughts of what we dont want, we can begin to shape, mold and build our lives to our own specifications!
What You Can Do
There are three things that you can start doing immediately that will help you to begin to build the life you desire:
1. Take a hard and objective look at your current reality – career, relationships, health and financial situation. Ask yourself the question How are my inner thoughts and attitudes being reflected in my outer world?
2. Take full responsibility for whatever is happening in your life, be it good or bad. Begin today by making the choice to change your thinking.
3. Begin to visualize the world that you truly desire and focus your thoughts on this. Ask yourself the question In order to achieve this outer world, what changes will I need to make internally? Whatever the required changes, take action today to start making them!
Understanding the Law of Correspondence is the first step towards taking control of your life. If you want positive change, look inside first and remember:
Change the quality of your thoughts and you will change the quality of your life!

My Journey to Joyous Living
Not long ago, I realized I was feeling less than joyous about my life, and about myself. I had no clue why — I lived where I wanted to, had the family I wanted close around me, and the job I’d gone to college to get… wait! Like millions of others, it was suddenly crystal clear that my discontent laid in my job! Id worked for 22 years in a job I did not love. I thought that I had everything I wanted in life and yet the lack of passion for my job had left me with a terrible emptiness inside. I suddenly realized that what I wanted was not a job but a career, a lifes work . . . a direction that defined me and gave me room to grow.
From that point on, it was obvious to me that if the direction of my life needed some tweaking, all I had to do was center myself in a positive place, and tweak
it! For me, the path to bringing joy and fulfillment back into my life was a gift from a friend, Susan Vandenberg, the most unlikely friend I can think of. It was just a matter of allowing myself to receive and embrace the opportunity she had to offer. Really, it was the same path that other independent home-based folks have taken for many years, at least as far back as my great grandparents. My 84 year old mother-in-law, Dorothy Jean, highly valued her Jewel Tea man. He was her primary source for household commodities when she was a young housewife in the 1940s. The Jewel Tea
man was a direct sales person, who today would be known as a net-work marketer, in the direct sales industry.
This form of distribution, skipping the middle-man takes the products and services directly from the company to the consumer. Advertising comes through word of mouth: friends sharing with their friends, sharing with their friends: concentric net-working among people. This type of home-based business enables regular people like you and me to be their own boss, create unlimited income, work with people you enjoy, retire early, free up time to do what you love doing; spend more time with your family, travel the world, pursue your dreams! Having no previous experience or education with any aspect of my new career, I now have the opportunity to impact thousands of lives! This is really working for me! And it can work for you!
The best part of all of this is the journey itself. Its a journey of bravery, tolerance, and self-belief in the face of criticism. Along my pathway, Im learning that Im capable of accomplishing every dream and desire that ever came through my mind. Its my life, and Im finally living it that way!
Im in the infancy of my journey, but I trust each step is taking me exactly where I want to be.
Are you wondering where that place is? Its a place where my husband and I do not worry about money, and our hearts are full of love, trust and peace. We have no fears. No doubts. We have all the time in the world to spend with our family and friends, giving and sharing to our fullest potential. We live our values and teach by example.
The business is really just a stepping stone in getting to this place that Ive envisioned, and intend with all my heart to create. When Im uncomfortable, and at times I am, I recognize that growing pains are natural when youre moving forward. I dont feel ready, but I continue to move forward, taking off — never looking down just in case Im actually flying.
Why Are You Still Here?
Do you ever find yourself in a particular situation that you want to get out of, but no matter how hard you try, you just cant seem to leave? You might hate your job, get no joy out of your relationship, or even want to get out of spending time with someone that you dont really care for. You know that you want out, but you keep finding yourself asking If I dont like this situation, why am I still here?
The answer to why you are there is a simple one, as is the action that you need to take in order to finally break free!
The answer is FEAR. Maybe not in the Im afraid for my life variety, but more the fear that if you take whatever action is necessary to change that you wont have what it takes to make it on the outside.
If you dont like your job, you might be staying there because you are afraid to lose the security provided by your salary or your benefits package. You also might not have enough confidence in yourself to find a better job, or to work towards a better position with your present company.
If you are in a relationship that you want to get out of, perhaps you hesitate because you dont want to hurt the other person, or there may be children involved, or, you simply dont believe that you can find someone better because your self-esteem is not where it should be.
If your circle of friends includes people that you dont really care to spend time with, you may be staying in that circle because you dont want to cause trouble by speaking your mind. Perhaps you think that your friends arent that great, but it is easier to stick with them than to find other friends that you truly want to spend time with.
Each of the examples above are only possible scenarios, but the thought process is basically the same in each one. You stay in a situation that you dont like, or you do things that you dont want to do, because you are afraid of what might happen if you take steps to change.
Furthermore, even if you get past the fear threshold, you are then faced with actually having to Take Action, which is probably going to make your life at least temporarily more difficult.
After all, being single again after a long relationship can be hard work. Going to the gym frequently when you have decided to lose weight will certainly entail effort. Finding new friends if you shed some old ones can certainly be a daunting task. Landing a new job or a significant promotion will definitely cause you to have to work harder.
As you can see, creating positive change in your life can be frightening, and it usually also entails work and effort on your behalf. Compared to staying where you are, making positive change seems like the hard road! Why even bother? Wouldnt it be easier to just take life as it comes and not have to face those fears, or put forth such an effort?
What you need to ask yourself at this point is how bad do you want to change? Do you really want to get out of that job? Do you seriously want to lose weight, or clean up your health? Are you honestly prepared to get out of that dead-end relationship?
In the classic book Think and Grow Rich the author, Napoleon Hill, starts out by talking about Desire. The concept of desire is put first in the book for a very real reason. In fact, if you truly grasp that reason, then your entire point of view and the momentum in your life can change instantly.
You see, desire is the key to everything that anyone has ever done or will ever do. Sometimes it is a desire to have, do, or be something, while other times it is a desire to keep something unpleasant from happening. However, in either case, if there is no desire, there is no motivation to start. There is nothing to put your back against when the going gets tough unless you truly desire the outcome that you are working towards. Without desire there is no creative spark that you can use to fan the flames of the creative process that will show you how to bring your desire into existence.
Your desire if it is strong enough will overcome your fears. Your burning desire to have what you want will power your body and your mind when you have to take the necessary steps to get what you want. Your unfailing ability to see what you want and know that you are going to get it will allow you to overcome every obstacle in your path, no matter how big or how overwhelming it is.
Why are you still here? You are still here because you dont truly WANT to leave. If you did, then you would find a way to make it happen!
Now that you understand that desire is the key to your success, the question now becomes, What are you going to do about it?

A Story On Courage – Helen Adams Keller
To many people, Helen Adams Keller is a symbol of courage and ray of hope. After being shut off from the world at eighteen months old, this child fought a slow and difficult battle to become a sensitive, ambitious and intelligent woman. She devoted her whole life to write, speak and labored endlessly for the less fortunate.
Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama on June 27, 1880. When she was nineteen months old, her life changed dramatically. She fell ill suddenly and the doctors did not expect her to live. Miraculously, the fever subsided but Helens illness had taken away her sight and hearing.
Helen grew up to be a very difficult child, terrorizing her family with her bad behaviors and temper tantrums. Looking after her has became too much of a challenge for them.
However, the situation changed on 3 March 1887. It was the day when Annie Adams Sullivan, a 21 year-old graduate, from the Perkins School for the Blind, was engaged to become her governess and teacher.
Annie taught Helen how to finger spell through repeated use of the manual alphabet with finger movements. But Helen was unable to understand what her teacher was trying to tell her. She also did not understand what the finger movements meant. Unable to express herself, Helen continued with her temper tantrums and screaming.
The epiphany came for Helen Keller on 5 April 1887. On this fine summer day, Annie brought Helen to a water pump. As the cold water splashed over Helens hand, Annie repeatedly spelt out the word water onto her hand.
Something about the coolness in the water may have brought out the meaning of the finger movements within Helen as she suddenly realized what her teacher has been trying to reach out to her.
In 1900, Helen started attending classes at Radcliffe College and Annie followed along. She industriously spelt lectures and notes onto her pupil’s hand. When Helen completed her course four years later, she became the first deaf and blind person to graduate from a college.
At the same time, Helen has begun her writing career. Famous books included her autobiography, The Story of My Life and others such as The World I Live In and Out of the Dark.
After graduation, Helen and Anne traveled the world, giving inspirational lectures and sharing her experiences and beliefs to enthralled crowds. She was best remembered as an advocate for people with disabilities and she campaigned tirelessly, raising money to alleviate the living and working conditions of those who are blind and deaf-blind.
Besides writing many books and articles on blindness, deafness and socialism, Helen also appeared before state legislatures and international forums. Her effort brought the world’s focus on problems about the blind as well as creating awareness on the need for preventive measures.
Despite the broad range of her interests, she founded Helen Keller International in 1915. It is a non-profitable organization, supporting and doing research on prevention of blindness. At the same time, Helen also gave her support to the programs conducted by Helen Keller Services for the Blind as well as Helen Keller National Center for the Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults.
In 1964, Helen was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nations highest civilian award. A year later she was elected to the Womens Hall of Fame.
Helen Keller continued tirelessly with the good work until her death on 1 June 1968. She has been described as the woman who showed the world that there are no boundaries to courage and faith; and her spirit will endure as long as man can read and stories can be told of.
Helen has proven that people with disabilities or inconveniences are not born to die and they not only can be independent but at the same time, have similar abilities to give endless contributions towards society as normal human beings.
Are you sometimes plagued with countless problems and difficulties that make you feel like it is the end of the world?
When facing such challenges, image yourself as Helen Keller, shut out in a black hole where you are not able to reach out to anyone.
Be touched by Helens never-ending spirit and *****!!!!!!! DO NOT TRY AND HIDE SNEAKY LINKS IN THE BODY !!!!!***** href=”http://www.lawofattractionfree.com”>courage. Never give up on your beliefs and preserve till the end.
If Helen is able to get out of her black hole and get reborn again, so can you.
Fired With Enthusiasm
“Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero.” = “Seize the day, put no trust in tomorrow.” — Horace
Along with “Carpe diem,” Horace said, “He has the deed half done who has made a beginning.” Indira Gandhi also thought that getting on with getting on is the way to go, “Have a bias toward action – let’s see something happen now. You can break that big plan into small steps and take the first step right away.” John Fitzgerald Kennedy joined the get your get up and go up and going chorus when he said, “There are risks and costs to a program of action. But they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction.” And perchance you think that people will simply assume that you have good intentions without your actually needing to go for it, the famous Anon pointed out, “Remember, people will judge you by your actions, not your intentions. You may have a heart of gold — but so does a hard-boiled egg.”
There you have it, the argument for not sitting around twiddling your thumbs; but, as with most ideas, there is an alternative point of view. One might suppose that it’s now time to dig in, go for the gusto, strike while the iron is hot, expatiate, explicate, and generally expound on that alternative point of view; but one would be wrong. Remember Johann von Goethe’s warning, “There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action.”
If that isn’t sufficient to slow the pace, also remember Walter Kerr’s observation, “Half the world is composed of idiots, the other half of people clever enough to take indecent advantage of them.” It would be well to first determine whether one is clever, an idiot, or merely a clever idiot before jumping to an ill considered conclusion. If all of that still doesn’t put the brakes on for you, persuade you to look before you leap, and convince you not to jump off the cliff until you learn how to fly, listen to Laurence J. Peter, “Fortune knocks but once, but misfortune has much more patience.” And speaking of misfortune, even Horace advised you to put no trust in tomorrow.
OK, you’ve got them, the alternative points of view. Do you act or not act, take a chance or play it safe? Sure, you need to Carpe diem; but it’s worth pointing out that even Horace didn’t say that it can’t wait till after lunch.
Having said that and with a balanced perspective firmly in mind, know that, “If you aren’t fired with enthusiasm, you will be fired with enthusiasm.” — Vince Lombardi
This isn’t always true but is true enough often enough. It may not be true if you are the boss’ kid, the only one who knows how to drive the truck, or if it’s your ball and you will take it and go home if they don’t let you pitch. Other than that, think of it as Lombardi’s immutable law of continuing employment. Oliver Wendell Holmes even knew the source of the fire, “Through our great good fortune, in our youth our hearts were touched with fire. It was given to us to learn at the outset that life is a profound and passionate thing.”
You probably won’t want to take the getting fired up thing as far as John Wesley did. He is the one who said, “I set myself on fire and people come to watch me burn.” Even so, John W. Foster’s point is definitely worth keeping in mind, “One of the strongest characteristics of genius is the power of lighting its own fire.” Turning into a torch like Wesley is going a tad too far; but keeping a match handy to light your own fire might be pretty cool, so to speak. Being a genius certainly can’t hurt your chances of avoiding the employment ax, if it falls.
If you don’t happen to have a promising future as a genius, Napoleon Hill offers some useful advice, “The starting point of all achievement is desire. Keep this constantly in mind. Weak desires bring weak results, just as a small amount of fire makes a small amount of heat.” You need to have a strong desire to succeed, a lot of Lombardi’s enthusiasm. As Publius Terentius Afer pointed out, “There is nothing so easy but that it becomes difficult when you do it reluctantly.”
Winston Churchill hit the same nail on the head, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” And Robert Schuller drove it home when he said, “Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.” Schuller could have easily added, “And do it enthusiastically.” Should you be thinking that the fire you need exceeds your capacity, the popular Anon. has a parting thought just for you, “If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way; if you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.”
